Being a single mother is a challenging journey, but being a solo mom comes with even higher hurdles. Solo moms are not only raising children alone but also doing so without the presence of the child’s father due to circumstances beyond their control. Perhaps the child’s father died, went to prison, or decided to abandon his responsibilities. Without a co-parent to share the load, the weight of motherhood can feel overwhelming, exhausting and isolating. However, no mother should have to navigate this path alone. That’s why building a strong support system is crucial.
Finding Strength in Community
Single Mom Defined recognizes the unique struggles solo moms face. To better serve these mothers, Cherrell Fulton and Caprice Scott formed a dedicated subgroup within Single Mom Defined to foster a sense of belonging and provide essential resources. The Solo Moms support group offers a safe space where women can connect, share their experiences and uplift one another.
Monthly Virtual Meetings & Quarterly In-Person Gatherings
Understanding the need for both accessibility and personal connection, Solo Moms hosts monthly Zoom meetings, allowing mothers to connect from the comfort of their homes. These sessions provide opportunities for moms to share their stories, gain insight from guest speakers, and exchange valuable resources. You can access the meeting log in information by joining Single Mom Defined’s Facebook group and joining the Solo Moms e-newsletter distribution list. Additionally, the group organizes quarterly in-person gatherings, offering a chance to strengthen relationships, celebrate victories, and recharge in a supportive environment.
The next meet up is Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 11 AM – 2 PM. Single Mom Defined’s Solo Support Group is going to brunch! Register today!
Join us for a Sunday Funday, where we’ll come together to relax, connect, and build lasting support networks. Take part in a day filled with delicious food, refreshing drinks, and fun games designed to spark joy and laughter. In addition to enjoying great company, we’ll have a thoughtful discussion on how to create and strengthen support systems that empower us in our daily lives. Whether you’re looking for a new community or simply a place to unwind, this brunch is the perfect opportunity to share experiences and lift each other up. Thanks to our partners at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, brunch is on us! Plus, we’ll have lots of gifts and prizes.
The Power of Support
Motherhood is a journey that no woman should walk alone—especially solo moms. Whether it’s finding emotional encouragement, financial advice, or simply the reassurance that someone understands, the power of a strong support system cannot be underestimated. Solo Moms is here to ensure that no mother feels abandoned or unheard.
If you are a solo mom or know someone who could benefit from this community, we encourage you to join us. Together, we can build a network of strength, resilience, and empowerment. Because when moms support moms, amazing things happen.
